The Real Work of GOD
Since 1980 when I was born again in my college days, I've always wondered what the real work of God is. With so many church denominations and ministries doing a lot of busy-Martha moves here and there, and sometimes ending up competing against each other, you step back and cannot but wonder what's really going on. Are we continuing what Jesus started or are we inventing our own?

Paul’s exhortation in 1 Corinthians 15:58—“give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord”—is not a call to busyness in church programs, but to a deeper, spiritual ministry rooted in Christ Himself. One that transforms people radically as a genuine spiritual new born in Christ.
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 18]
When Jesus defined the real “work of God” in John 6:29 as believing in the One the Father sent, He shifted the focus from external activity to internal communion. True ministry is not measured by the number of committees we join or events we organize (or by the number of converts or planted churches) but by whether we remain in Christ and lead others to do the same. A lot of busy movements can draw us away from the real work of God without us noticing it. Paul said, "We preach Christ crucified." This has always been GOD's next move, especially in these end times. Revelation portrays Christ in the last days as the Lamb that was slain. We have to eat that---eat His flesh and drink His blood. This is preaching Christ crucified, the real work of God.
Here's what I mean. Jesus explains this ministry through the imagery of eating His flesh and drinking His blood (John 6:56–57). This is not a literal act, but a spiritual reality: to feed on Christ is to draw life from Him, to depend on His sacrifice, and to remain in His presence. Just as Jesus lived because of the Father, so believers live because of Him. Ministry, then, is helping others enter into this spiritual experience and abiding relationship—teaching, preaching, and discipling in ways that lead people to truly “remain in Christ.”
This kind of ministry is radically different from much of what passes for church work today. Programs, concerts, and social activities may have value, but they are not the essence of the “work of the Lord.” If they do not lead people to deeply hunger and feed on Christ, they risk becoming distractions. If a ministry just aims to make people busy in church and attend its programs faithfully to be an outstanding member of its denomination, it terribly falls short of being the real work of God. Paul’s call to steadfastness and immovability means we must resist the temptation to equate visible activity with eternal fruit. The only work that endures is the ministry that connects people to Jesus as their source of life.
To give ourselves “fully” to this ministry means prioritizing discipleship that centers on Christ’s life within us. It's not just bible studies, seminars or fellowships. It's losing ourselves in Christ, surrendering personal ego, selfish ambition, and control to align our lives with God's will. It involves "dying to self"—a daily, intentional choice to assume Christ’s priorities over personal desires, leading to true spiritual life, purpose, and eternal fulfillment rather than self-negation.It means teaching believers to trust Jesus daily, to draw strength from His Word, and to live in dependence on His Spirit. It means proclaiming the gospel not as a set of doctrines alone, but as an invitation to a radical union with Christ as one flesh with Him. When we help others remain in Him, we are doing the work that truly counts in the Kingdom of God.
In short, the ministry we must embrace is one of abiding and sharing life in Christ. It is not about multiplying activities, but about multiplying disciples who live because of Him. This is the food that endures to eternal life, the work that will never be in vain.
